28lb Old Lake common leads carp catches this week!

THIS WEEKS FISHING at Bury Hill Fisheries!

Generally not a bad week with all lakes producing some reasonable fishing for the time of year. Starting with the two smaller lakes this week, Milton is probably fishing the best of all with some excellent mixed bags being reported which includes the odd carp to double figures. With tench and crucian making up the main catches, anglers are also seeing some cracking roach and rudd as well as the odd decent perch to 2lb plus.

Bonds Lake has also fished a lot better this week with quite a few anglers reporting some good bags of small carp with fish in the 4lb to 7lb making up the bulk of the catches with the odd fish to 10lb plus.

The Old Lake also continues to see some reasonable fishing for the time of year with the bream continuing to dominate sport or both bank and boat anglers. With both the front and long banks fishing well with bags close to 100lb being reported, boat anglers are also finding some reasonable sport from the jungle area with bonus tench and carp also showing.

The carp fishing on the Old Lake has also been pretty good with quite a few multi bags reported this week which included a run of twenties with a couple of fish nudging into high twenties. Temple also saw some reasonable action with few twenties reported but surprisingly no thirties this week.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

The fishing on the Old Lake is much the same as previous weeks with the cooler, wetter weather making for some good fishing for the time of year. As expected, the bream continue to dominate the catches from both bank and boat, although the week did see some cracking tench caught, the best 8lb plus whilst general anglers also found plenty of small roach, rudd and perch around the margins to keep them occupied, particularly along the long bank pegs.

With feeder tactics continuing to work well, the front and long banks continue to produce good numbers of fish in the 3lb to 5lb range with the odd angler reporting up to thirty fish a session. A small feeder or cage feeder is the still the ‘In Method’ with hair rigged or lassoed 8mm or 10mm pellet on a size 14 or 12 barbless hook fished 30m accounting for the bulk of the catches. It is also important to remember to ping out a few pellets around your feeder little and often as this does make a very big difference to the catches. Saying that, both pole and float tactics are also catching with pellet being the best bait.

Boat anglers have also had another good week with the open water off the point of the island again accounting for some great bream sport with light pole float set up on a running line being the best method.

This weeks catches

Colin Stevens from Guildford had a cracking day mid week catching 32 bream to 5lb as well as 5 tench to 8lb. Fishing peg 3 along the front bank, Colin fished the ‘in method’, a small cage feeder with 10mm pellet catching from 30mts out.

Terry Baverstock from Woking also had a good day in the week catching 24 bream to 4lb, which he caught on a 10m pole-fishing pellet. Fishing peg 50 at the top end of the long bank, Terry also had a bonus 12lb carp.

Regulars to Bury Hill, Hanwell Prince of Wales fished a match on the front bank last week, dominated by the bream, Joe Bushell won the day from peg 7 catching 54lb 12oz on feeder and pellet, second was Cliff Dixon with 35lb caught on similar tactics from peg 13 with third place going to Alan Thompson who weighed in 25lb 12oz from peg 17.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Generally a quieter week for the carpers with the best of the fishing coming from the Old Lake for a change, which produced some good multi bags along with some cracking bigger fish to 28lb. Whilst Temple was somewhat quieter this week, there were still a few twenties reported.

With all areas producing a few fish, the week saw plenty of anglers reporting multi bags of up to a dozen fish with the majority of the fish mid to upper doubles. Saying that, the week also saw a number of anglers reporting some bigger fish with one angler bagging three twenties during an early week session which included a brace of big commons, the best hitting the scales at 28lb.

Whilst tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks, Icelandic Red boilies are probably the best bait right now, particularly when fished with pva bags and pellet. Saying that, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are also catching a few fish as are most good quality baits. It is also worth trying pop ups and popped up corn.

Whilst Temple remains a little quieter this week, a few twenties have been reported in the week. With all banks seeing some action, the fish remain well spread with the island margins always a popular area to try. Baits are again varied with both corn, boilies and pop up’s catching.

This weeks catches

Young Chris Cocks from Dorking was the man to beat this week on the Old Lake catching a dozen or so fish during his session which included three twenties and two new PB’s. Starting off on peg 33, Chris fished Icelandic Red baits over pellet to the island catching a few mid to upper doubles and a cracking 24lb 3oz common, which was a new PB for Chris. Changing swims to peg 3 along the front bank, fishing similar baits, Chris then caught 7 further fish topped by a stunning 28lb common and a 20lb 8oz mirror.

Another angler to do well on the Old Lake was Simon Yeates who managed 3 fish during his day session, the best a lovely mirror weighing 21lb 11oz. Simon fished a KG1 boilie to the island margins from peg 30.

Regular Mark Savage failed to get amongst the twenties this week catching 9 fish, 5 mirrors and 4 commons, his best fish of the session being a stunning 19lb ghost. Mark caught all his fish on Scopex baits fished to the island from peg 15. Another regular, Gavin Campbell also failed on the twenty front catching 5 fish during his overnight session, the best a 17lb common. Gavin fished peg 2 catching on Pulse baits.

On Temple, Phil Myers caught a nice brace of mirrors weighing 23lb and 24lb 1oz. Fishing the road bank, Phil caught on boilies fished to the island margins.

Following last weeks catches on Temple by Steve Puplett, see below pics of Steve's mirrors weighing 34lb, 28lb 4oz, 27lb 2oz and 21lb

BONDS LAKE

Another pretty good week on Bonds with some reasonable catches reported by both pleasure and club anglers alike. Although no huge weights, a lot of anglers reported bags up to 15 or so carp, which averaged 6lb to 7lb with the odd bigger bag reported.

With all methods working, feeder tactics continue to be the most consistent method with pellet and mini boilies continuing to account for good numbers of fish. The secret is to fish tight to the island margins pinging loose pellet out singularly all the time. If you ask in the tackle shop, we now have a leaflet describing the ‘in’ method on Bonds.

This weeks catches

The CESAS match on Bonds fished pretty well with 1st place going to Joe Bushell from Carshalton with 54lb 12oz. Joe fished a 5m pole to the margins on peg 7 catching on soft pellet. 2nd place was taken by Cliff Dixon who fished peg 13, fishing feeder to the island margins, Cliff weighed in 35lb. 3rd place went to Alan Thompson who caught 25lb 6oz from peg 15 on feeder tactics.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake had another good week of catches reported with plenty of tench and crucian showing from all areas, which helped make up some good mixed bags, which also included quality roach and rudd as well as the odd big perch to 2lb plus.

With the margins being a good place to target, float and pole tactics are both catching well with hard drilled and soft pellet over small pellet working well as is hair rigged pellet and mini boilies, maggot, caster, worm and corn.

This weeks catches

Pete Burke had a good session early week catching a dozen or so tench and crucian as well as a few quality roach and rudd. Fishing a short pole to the reeds off peg 15, Pete caught on red maggot.
