FOUR THIRTIES AND TONS OF BREAM!

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Generally a good week on all the lakes with anglers continuing to bag up plenty of bream on the Old Lake along with a few tench, the odd carp as well as small silver fish and perch. Whilst feeder tactics remain the ‘in method’, pole and float are also both catching.

As we head into the autumn, the carp fishing has also picked up with most anglers reporting good numbers of fish on the Old Lake which has included a few twenties whilst Temple has thrown up 4 thirties this week bring the total for the year to 87!

The two smaller lakes have also fished better this week with Bonds seeing some reasonable bags of carp reported with a few anglers catching upwards of 20 fish to 10lb whilst Milton has also seen some better catches with the tench and crucian showing well along with plenty of silver fish.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

The start of autumn has certainly kicked the bream into a feeding frenzy on the Old Lake with yet more BIG catches of bream reported this week with both bank and boat anglers catching well.

With bream dominating sport, it is still feeder tactics, which continue to work well with pole and float tactics also catching fish. Averaging 3lb to 5lb and with the odd fish topping 6lb, it is easy to see how anglers have been amassing 200lb bags.

Whilst the front and long bank pegs have been the key areas, boat anglers have also shared some of the action with the open water along the front bank being one of the hot spots fishing a light pole float set up on a running line.

The ‘In Method’ for bank anglers continues to be a small feeder or cage feeder with hair rigged or lassoed 8mm or 10mm pellet on a size 14 or 12 barbless hook. It is also important to remember to ping out a few pellets around your feeder little and often as this does make a very big difference to the catches. Saying that, both pole and float tactics are also catching with pellet being the best bait.

This weeks catches

Tony Scott from Burgh Heath had a good day on peg 36 catching 13 bream to 3lb. Fishing a groundbait feeder to the open water, Tony caught on maggot packing his feeder with Swim Stim green. Fishing just up the bank from Tony was Mick Matty from Kingswood who also fished a groundbait feeder and pellet catching 8 bream, 1 tench and two bonus carp weighing 10lb and 12lb.

Jacob Stroud also had a good day when he fished peg 21. Fishing a small feeder 20mts out with corn and pellet hookbait, Jacob caught 12 bream to 4lb plus and a bonus 14lb 13oz mirror carp, which was a new PB for Jacob.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

A much better week for the carpers with four thirties reported from Temple this week bringing the total number of thirties caught this year to 87 whilst the Old Lake also saw an improvement in catches with a number of multi -bags reported which included fish to 28lb.

Following a lull in catches during August, the start of autumn saw things pick up on Temple with one thirty reported last weekend and a further three thirties reported during the week along with a few twenties. Whilst the fish are well spread, the middle swims along both the Old Lake and road bank seem to be producing most of the action with the margins seemingly being the best areas to target. Baits also remain varied with corn, boilies and pop up’s all accounting for fish.

The Old Lake also saw autumn kick start catches with anglers reporting multi bags of up to 20 fish which a 28lb common. Whilst tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks, Icelandic Red boilies are fishing well as are KG1, Activ 8, Maple 8 and Cell boilies. Whilst most good quality baits will catch, it is also worth trying pop ups and popped up corn.

This weeks catches

Temple regular Craig Hess came up trumps on Temple this week catching two big mirrors weighing 33lb 10oz and 32lb. Fishing swim 11, Craig caught both his fish on popped up corn which he fished with small PVA bags filled with pellet catching from the island margins. Missing 4 runs, Craig returned mid week to catch a cracking 24lb 14oz common from swim 9 fishing similar tactics.

The third thirty of the week was caught by Rob Wright from South Norwood, London, fishing swim 11, Rob fished popped up corn between the lilies and island catching his new PB, a cracking mirror weighing 32lb 7oz during the day.

The fourth and biggest thirty of the week fell to Frank Brownlee, fishing his third session on Temple, this was Frank’s first fish. Fishing swim 9, Frank fished boilies to the lilies on his left catching his new PB at 10pm in torrential rain. Frank also caught a 23lb 7oz mirror the following morning. This now brings the total number of thirties caught on Temple this year to 87!

Ross Mills was another angler to have a good session, fishing the front bank Ross caught 9 fish, the best a 22lb 7oz common. Ross fished a 18mm Icelandic Red boilie to the point of the island over a bed of pellet and loose baits. Hugh Bonsor also did well on the front bank catching three fish during his session, which included 21lb mirror. Fishing peg 3, Hugh opted to fish 18mm Mainline Pulse baits to the far bank with his other fish being mid doubles. Victor Korotunas from Harrow also had a good day when he fished peg 10. Fishing mid size Tutti Frutti boilies to the open water, Victor landed 4 carp, the best a 21lb common.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds was another lake to benefit from the autumnal weather with a number of anglers reporting some excellent fishing this week with anglers reporting bags of up to 20 carp. As in previous weeks, most methods are working with both feeder tactics and the pole being particularly consistent. Regarding baits, pellet and mini boilies continue to account for good numbers of fish with the island margins being the best area. If you ask in the tackle shop, you can get a leaflet describing the ‘in’ method on Bonds, which will certainly increase your catches.

This weeks catches

Chris Humphries fished peg 18 catching 20 plus carp to 10lb for a good 100lb net. Fishing a 6m pole, Chris fed Swim Stim green groundbait fishing 8mm soft pellets over the top.

The Marinus brothers from Banstead also had a good day on Bonds catching 36 carp to 11lb between them. All opting to fish small feeders packed with Swim Stim groundbait, Joe, Richard and Bill all caught on maggot and boilies.

MILTON LAKE

Milton also saw a lift in catches this week with some good bags of fish reported. With all areas producing a few fish, the margins are still the best bet for a few tench and crucian with both pole and float being the best methods. With quality roach and rudd also showing well, hard drilled and soft pellet over small pellet are both catching, as is maggot, caster, worm and corn.

This weeks catches

Chris Mills had a very good day earlier in the week catching a good mix of fish. Fishing soft pellet to the margins on peg 20, Chris caught tench to 3lb 9oz, crucian to 1lb 11oz and plenty of roach and rudd to 1lb.
