Set in a beautiful backdrop of the Herefordshire countryside Docklow Pools is a holiday destination as much as a fishery.There are nine established lakes set in 100 acres of picturesque wooded valley, alongside two private stretches of the River Teme and 1,000 yards of the River Wye full of barbel, chub and grayling. Docklow has a 17th Century listed pub and restaurant on site as well as old stone cottages, log cabins and lodges offering holiday accommodation or bed and breakfast of the highest standard with fantastic scenery and fresh air. Facilities are unrivalled with a snooker room, pitch and putt course, all weather tennis court. There is secure tackle storage for all residents plus weekly matches. At the centre of the Docklow complex is one of the largest shops in Herefordshire - Docklow Angling Centre. Stocked with major brands of tackle, clothing, luggage and bait it provides everything you might need during your stay whether new to the sport and kitting yourself out or a seasoned specialist stocking up on the latest baits and important terminal tackle items. There’s also plenty of bait including fresh maggots, casters to order and worms as well as boilies, meat, pellets, pastes and corn.A family run business people of all ages visit Docklow with over 95 per cent of holiday makers returning to stay year after year. ............................................................................................................................................The Lakes The Match Pool has 31 concrete pegs, with pole, waggler, feeder or bomb catching carp averaging 6-7lb with plenty of doubles plus bream, rudd and perch. The five hour match record is 246 lb set in February 2003.Set amongst trees Moby Dick is where the big fish swim with carp over 20 lb. There are 35 pegs and three islands and plenty of bream, chub, barbel, roach and rudd. Waggler, feeder and bomb score with floating bread for the carp. Farmer Jack and Bridge Pool offer 60 pegs between them, with regular nets over 50 lb of carp, chub, bream, roach and perch with odd bigger carp over 10 lb adding variety. Mickey Mouse and Figure of Eight are both great lakes to head to for a mixed bag, with plenty of lilies hiding carp, tench, bream, roach and rudd. Mickey Mouse has a good head of crucians, chub and barbel. Major Bill is one for the specimen boys. At seven acres it is perfect for bivvying up to target catfish over 50 lb, grass carp and mirrors and commons over 25 lb with plenty of doubles. Major Bill is for double rod ticket holders and anglers over 18 years.The Canal or Snake as it has become known is a pole anglers paradise. There are 108 pegs varying from 9 - 14 metres wide and full of barbel, tench, chub, rudd, bream and carp. |
