White Springs Lakes, a member of Premier Fisheries
Fishery Details:
Located amongst beautiful South Wales surroundings and overlooked by the mountain of Cefn Drum, White Springs offers first class day ticket fishing and holiday accommodation on six lakes catering for everyone from match anglers to big carp specialists. White Springs holds the Welsh carp record with a 41 lb 6 oz giant from the Specimen Lake caught back in July 2004, and the complex record stands at a mighty 44 lb 8 oz.
There are six apartments offering flexible accommodation ranging from single apartments through to apartments which sleep seven. All have their own bathroom, living room and kitchen with one apartment specially tailored to disabled visitors.
In addition there is a timber fishing lodge next to Specimen Lake which is also available for rental, plus plenty of room for camping and visiting touring caravans with electric hook ups, toilet, shower and laundry facilities. Access is good, White Springs being just three miles from the M4 motorway.
On the main complex there is a comfortable bar and a games room, whilst the bed and breakfast accommodation for visitors is supplemented by all-day breakfasts. For anglers on the complex the local pizza, Chinese and Indian restaurants will even in the village of Pontarddulais will deliver to the lake, and we even announce the arrival of your food on the tannoy. How’s that for service!
An onsite tackle shop open 8:30am to 6pm is stocked with everything from rods and reels to clothing, terminal tackle and baits – plus fresh maggots as well as worms, pellets, boilies, tinned baits and groundbaits.
Despite being a fairly large fishery, White Springs hasn't lost that personal touch. Owner Vince Lloyd and his family are always on hand to offer help and advice on matters as wide ranging as the fishing to telling about the local places of interest worth visiting.
Their commitment to providing a friendly and helpful service is one of the many reasons why so many anglers and their families return to White Springs year after year and why local anglers from as far away as Cardiff become regulars at the venue.
The Lakes
The stream fed, lily fringed Pleasure Lake at two acres has 20 pegs offering brisk sport for everything from carp to 20 lb to record shaking roach. Stocked with carp, green and golden tench, bream, barbel, golden and blue orfe, roach and perch. All methods and baits work from floating baits for carp to whip, waggler and feeder. Roach have been weighed to 4 lb, and perch to a huge 4 lb 8 oz.
Specimen Lake is the biggest on the complex at 10 acres although pegs have been kept to a minimum to allow anglers space for multiple rods, and there are also 13 purpose designed double swims. In addition to mirror carp to 40 lb and commons to over 30, the water holds grass carp to 31 lb and koi to 25 lb. Floating baits, the Method and boilies and pellets all score well.
The New Match Lake is two former trout pools joined together at two acres with 26 pegs and three central islands. Short pole with pellet produces the best bags. Most of the carp are under 3 lb plus good stocks of roach to 1 lb, tench to 12 oz, perch to 1 lb, small chub, golden tench, golden orfe and blue orfe.
Developed with the pole angler in mind, the 36 peg Canal Match and Pleasure Lake has six central islands 13 metres from the bank and an even depth. It holds 17 varieties of fish including carp to 10 lb, koi to 6 lb, bream, Net of Carpskimmers, tench and golden orfe. Match weights regularly top 80 lb. It’s also renowned for its perch that have reached over 5 lb with many fours – attracting anglers such as Matt Hayes.
Opened in 2005 Opened New Canal Match Lake has 41 pegs and holds nothing over 3 lb and is stocked with the same variety of fish as the original Canal Match and Pleasure Lake, producing weights to 150 lb. So called because of depths to 18 feet The Pit has 12 pegs and is a pleasure lake, stocked with carp from 7 to 14 lb, bream to 5 lb and perch to almost 4 lb.
